A Powerful Women from INDIA – Indra Nooyi
Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi was born in Chennai on 28th October 1955. She married Raj K. Nooyi and gave birth to 2 children. She completed her schooling in Holy Angles Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. She pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Madras Christian College in 1974. Later, in 1976, she was educated in IIM Calcutta on Post Graduate Diploma in Management (MBA).
Initially, Indra Nooyi started her career as a Product Manager at Johnson&Johnson. She was also graduated from Yale School of Management in 1978. She was the Senior Vice President of strategic marketing in Asea Brown Boveri and the Vice President & Director of corporate strategy and planning at Motorola.
She joined PepsiCo in 1994 and she became the President & CFO of Pepsico in 2001. She had been a part of PepsiCo’s restructuring and played a vital role in divestiture of its restaurant and purchase of Tropicana. She took several efforts to merge with Quaker Oats Company. She became the fifth CEO of PepsiCo in 2006.
She was one among the list of 50 women announced by ‘Wall Street Journal’ in 2007 and 2008. She was named as the 3rd most powerful women in 2008 and 1st most powerful women in 2009 and 2010 by Forbes & Fortune respectively. She has been honored with many awards and her recent award is Honorary Doctorate of Humane letters in 2015. She has proved the power of women.
