KERALA FISH CURRY( VARUTHARAICHA MEEN CURRY)

Ingredients:

Fish – ½ kg

Mustard seeds (kaduku)– 1 tsp

Fenugreek (vendhayam) – ¼ tsp

Ginger  garlic paste – 1½ tbsp

Small onion – 6-8

Chili powder – 1½ – 2 tbsp

Coriander powder – 1½ – 2 tbsp

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

Tamarind – 2,3 pieces

Curry leaves

Salt and Coconut oil- as required

 

Method to prepare:

Soak  tamarind in hot water for few minutes….. mix coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder with coconut oil to a fine paste… add oil to a hot pan and add mustard and fenugreek wait for a while so that it stops splutter….

 

Add ginger garlic paste and sauté it… saute onion and curry leaves until it becomes golden  brown… add masala paste and salt and fry until oil appear on top of the gravy….

 

Add tamarind paste and fish when the gravy gets boiled and make sure fish don’t get brokento pieces…. Mix the gravy so that fish gets coated with masala….

 

Add water and boil for 20minutes  until it becomes thick gravy consistency in low flame…..

 

Serve it with hot rice or tapioca( marichini kizhanghu)….
