PARRY’S CORNER- The Manhattan town at Chennai
The Parry’s Corner is located near the Port Of Chennai. It has acquired its name “Parry” from a Welsh merchant called “Thomas Parry”, who set up the EID Parry Company in 1787.
It is one of the buzzing places of Chennai with thousands of people actively involving in buying and selling of goods. One can get all the basic amenities/requirements from this place starting from groceries to clothing. Moreover, the goods sold here are usually cheap, thus promoting wholesale merchandise. Most of the streets are exclusively dedicated for selling one exact type of merchandise. For example: The
Anderson Street is known for Paper and Paper products and the Kasi Chetty Street is known for stationery items and fancy items.
There is no compromise for clothing in Parrys corner. Getting into the Streets of Sowcarpet, women folk will be attracted by the Saree shops and fashion Jewellery shops. Each shop has unique collection, types and patterns according to the fashion prevailing in the market.
There is innumerable small scale Manufacturing Industries inside Parry’s. Manufacturing of Iron rods, iron pieces are quite common here.
Burma Bazaar is a place neighbouring the Parry’s corner, wherein Electronic goods are sold. They include Mobile Phones and its accessories, Keyboards etc.
On the whole, you would enjoy visiting and shopping in the Parry’s corner all day long. But remember that the CLOCK IS TICKING!!!
