Neighbourhoods were inundated and a lake broken in this town, that seem to be  the heaviest rain within the past  twenty  four hours in Tamil Nadu.

Three persons were washed away in flash floods in Hosur following serious rains, (hosur flood) neighbourhoods  were inundated and a lake broken in the town, that was the heaviest rain within the past twenty four hours in Tamil Nadu  and  a prime official said that arrangements are in place to shift individuals living in low lying areas here if it rains continuously .

Last night, when a mother and female offspring, aged  41 and  13 and a 20-year-old man tried to cross a road in SM Nagar  were washed away by flash floods which happened  in separate incidents around 9 PM.

“The flash flood was because of discharge  from a stormwater drain that carried excessive rain water from Karnoor  lake. They had even  waited  for the water to recede,” Hosur Sub-Collector, K Senthilraj told  PTI.

The serious rains that starts last evening lasted for many hours and resulted in flash floods.

The city has been experiencing  showers, particularly  during  evening hours  for a week.  During the 24 hour period   from  8.30 AM  yesterday to  8.30 am today , Hosur recorded 14 cms of rain,  the highest in Tamil Nadu for the period, the Regional meteoric Department said.

Chandrambigai  lake starts  overflowed on Wednesday night and inundated neighbourhoods, like Manjunathanagar and KCP Nagar.

” We took steps to  remove all clogged stormwater drains, besides,  we used  earth movers and loaders to assist the flow of water outside the neighbourhoods ,” Senthilraj said to a  question raised on  steps to tackle  inundation.

Chinna  Elathagiri lake within the town broken this morning.

Senthilraj said over 200 sandbags were accustomed to  plug the breach and  that  he had inspected the location, constant vigil was being maintained, he said.

On steps to tackle inundation in case of further  rains, he said  vulnerable locations are known  and that  if required,  people in low lying areas would be housed in 5 wedding halls and  10 schools.
