Chennai: Woman Doctor tries to kill father by removing IV line in ICU

A Coimbatore-based doctor has been charged with attempt to murder for trying to kill her 82-year-old father by removing the line delivering life-saving drugs in the Intensive Care Unit of a Chennai hospital, according to multiple reports. The incident came to light as the CCTV footage showing the woman in action went viral on social media recently. Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman forcibly took her father’s thumb prints before unhooking the IV fluid line. The nurses rushed in time and saved the man. However, he died two months later, reports The Times of India. The incident was reported in September last year.

According to reports, Dr. Jayasudha Manoharan tried to kill her ailing father, Dr. E. Rajagopal, who was being treated at his son’s Aditya Hospital in Chennai for heart diseases. CCTV footage provided by the hospital shows Jayasudha entering her father’s room with her sons, allegedly obtaining signature and thumbprints from her father and then leaving as the nurses barge in.

Rajagopal’s son, Dr R Jayaprakash, had filed a complaint soon after the incident but reports suggest that an FIR was lodged in January this year. Though the police had initially filed cases of extortion and criminal trespassing, it was later changed to attempt to murder in the chargesheet.

Rajagopal’s son had also filed a complaint with the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council stating that the September incident had led to his father’s deteriorating health conditions which ultimately took his life. Subsequently, a showcause notice was sent to Jayasudha. The Hindu reported that since the council was not satisfied with the response, they have decided to hold a disciplinary committee meeting on August 30.
